President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) is scheduled to attend the groundbreaking event of New Yogyakarta International Airport or New Yogyakarta International Airport located in Kulon Progo Regency, Yogyakarta Province. The new airport is targeted to replace Adisutjipto Airport, located in Sleman District, Yogyakarta.
“We discussed with the Sultan for the plan of the President to come (groundbreaking) at the end of this month, about the time we will propose to the President through the Minister of State Secretary,” said Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi after the Minister of State Secretary Pratikno and President Director Angkasa Pura I Danang S Baskoro met the Governor of Yogyakarta, Sri Sultan Hamengku Buwono (HB) X, Saturday (January, 21th).
The Minister of Transportation appreciates the local government which has fully supported the development plan of New Yogyakarta International Airport. He considered, the support of the Sultan for this project could be an example of other provinces.
The construction of the new airport in western Yogakarta is expected to support Yogyakarta as a tourist destination after Bali. To that end, the Minister of Transportation requested to PT Angkasa Pura I to be able to complete the construction of this airport faster than the time specified.
“On this occasion I convey this process should be implemented well and we have mandated to PT Angkasa Pura I to be able to finish faster than the time specified so as to add tourist destinations in Yogyakarta,” said Minister of transportation.

Yogyakarta Governor Sri Sultan HB X explained that his party and PT Angkasa Pura I have tried to do land acquisition. “We together with PT Angkasa Pura I have coordinated, and allows the problems we can solve, in the sense of liberation (land) we have also done,” he said.
While Minister of State Secretary Pratikno conveyed the desire of the President of RI for the development of infrastructure that has been delayed to be completed soon. “The president wants the infrastructure development that has been long, not delayed to be done, the longer the loss of opportunity,” he said.
President Director of PT Angkasa Pura I, Danang S. Baskoro has added, the construction of New Yogyakarta International Airport is expected to be completed in March 2019. With the construction of new airport in Yogyakarta this can make Indonesia especially Yogyakarta better known to the world.
