When a House of Prayer Becomes Part of the Recovery Journey: Betesda Rehabilitation Center Visits Bukit Rhema

Klien Panti Rehabilitasi Betesda menuliskan doa dan harapan di Wall of Hope Bukit Rhema

There are moments we simply cannot put into words. And the regular visits from our friends at Betesda Rehabilitation Center are exactly that kind of moment.

Today, we were genuinely happy — not just the kind of happy that comes from welcoming guests, but something deeper. Happy because we know the journey these clients have been on. Happy because Bukit Rhema gets to be a part of their recovery, even in a small way.

Welcome back, Betesda family. This hill always has a place for you.

More Than Just a Trip — This Is Part of the Healing Journey

If you didn’t know, Betesda Rehabilitation Center and Bukit Rhema aren’t just two places that happen to be close to each other. We are one ecosystem under the umbrella of Yayasan Sinar Bukit Rhema (Sinar Bukit Rhema Foundation).

Betesda Rehab is a place where clients go through their recovery process — from addiction, from wounds, from things that once cut them off from the life they were meant to live. There are programs, mentors, and patient people who walk alongside them every single day.

And Bukit Rhema? We are that breath of fresh air. A place where the sky feels wider, where prayer feels closer, where the view of the Menoreh Hills and the rice paddies stretching out below remind you that the world outside is still beautiful — and you belong in it.

These visits to Bukit Rhema aren’t ordinary outings. They’re part of a therapeutic process — a bridge that slowly prepares clients to return to society, with a stronger heart and hopes they’ve written down with their own hands.

Guided by Ibu Nur: A Senior Mentor Who Knows How to Lead the Heart

Today’s visit was led by Ibu Nur, one of Betesda’s Senior Mentors whom we’ve come to know well. Ibu Nur isn’t the type who just supervises from a distance — she leads from the front, steps into every moment alongside the clients, and feels what they feel.

Under her guidance, today’s group went through a series of activities we designed not to entertain, but to touch — and hopefully, to heal, little by little.

Praying Together in the Prayer Room — Where It All Begins

Bukit Rhema is a House of Prayer for All Nations. Not a church, not a temple, not a mosque — but a space open to anyone who comes carrying a burden and needs somewhere to lay it down before God.

The first session started here: the prayer room on the ground floor, with a quiet atmosphere that you feel the moment you step inside. Ibu Nur led the group in prayer, and even those of us watching from outside found ourselves carried into the stillness.

Something happens in a room like that. Words don’t always need to be spoken out loud. Sometimes it’s enough to sit quietly, acknowledge that you’re not alone, and let that peace do its work.

The Wall of Hope — When Hope Is Written in Your Own Handwriting

“Prayer Turns the Impossible into Possible” — and the people standing here believe it, fully.

This is always the moment we look forward to most whenever Betesda comes to visit.

The Wall of Hope — as the large letters on the wooden board say — is one of the most iconic corners of Bukit Rhema. Hundreds, even thousands of slips of paper filled with prayers and hopes from previous visitors already cover the board. Each one is a piece of faith placed here.

And today, the clients from Betesda Rehab added theirs.

We don’t know what they wrote. That’s between them and God. But we know something moved in that moment — perhaps the courage to hope again, perhaps the courage to put into writing something that had only ever lived in their hearts.

There’s a quote displayed near the Wall of Hope: “Prayer Turns the Impossible into Possible.” Simple. But standing in that room, it felt like anything but decoration.

Exploring Seven Floors — One Step at a Time

After the prayer session and the Wall of Hope, the group began exploring the Bukit Rhema building floor by floor. Seven floors, each with its own story, each offering a different perspective — literally and figuratively.

On each level, Ibu Nur shared a few words of reflection. No long lectures — just short, precise sentences that landed exactly where they needed to. And we watched the clients listen, respond, and even laugh together at certain moments.

The climb itself — floor by floor, step by step — already felt like a metaphor: one step at a time, one floor at a time, until you finally reach the top. And from up there, the view is extraordinary.

The Crown of Bukit Rhema — Up Here, the World Feels Different

At the Crown of Bukit Rhema — arms raised, hearts lighter, with the Menoreh Hills stretching out before them.

No visit to Bukit Rhema is complete without making it to the Crown — the highest point of this dove-shaped building.

And if you’ve been up there, you know the feeling. The wind that greets you the moment you step out, the 360-degree panorama that opens up completely, the Menoreh Hills on one side, the rice fields and rivers below, and on a clear day — the silhouette of Borobudur Temple in the distance.

The clients who made it up today didn’t immediately say much when they arrived at the top. They just stood there, looked out, and some of them raised their hands as if embracing the sky.

That was enough.

Lunch at Kedai Bukit Rhema — Because Recovery Also Needs Warm Moments

After all that activity, stomachs that had climbed up and down several flights of stairs needed some attention — and we had just the place.

Kedai Bukit Rhema is a dining space we built with the same spirit: warm, open, and celebrating simple things. Our menu features Indonesian home-style cooking made with local ingredients — from Nusantara Grilled Chicken and favorite Group Rice Boxes to our signature Latela Cheese Cassava.

Lunch today didn’t feel like just eating. Conversations flowed, laughter filled the room, and we noticed faces that looked noticeably lighter than when they first arrived. That’s the thing we’re most grateful for.

Why This Matters — Not Just for Them, But for All of Us

These visits are a regular part of Betesda Rehab‘s program to prepare clients for their return to society. And for us at Bukit Rhema, every visit like this serves as a powerful reminder of why this place exists.

Bukit Rhema is more than a tourist destination. We are a House of Prayer for All Nations — and “all nations” includes everyone. Including those who are in the process of rediscovering the best version of themselves.

Recovery is a long road and it doesn’t always go in a straight line. There are hard days, moments when hope feels distant. But there are also days like this — days when you climb to the top of a hill, raise your hands to the sky, and realize that you still have a future worth fighting for.

We believe that a place can be part of healing. That fresh air, an open view, and the quiet of prayer can work in ways that aren’t always measurable but are very real in how they’re felt.

Until the Next Visit

To our friends from Betesda Rehabilitation Center who came today — thank you for coming back. This hill always misses your visits.

And to you reading this — if you or an organization you know needs a space like this for spiritual activities, a retreat, or a recovery visit, the doors of Bukit Rhema are always open. Reach out via WhatsApp at wa.me/bukitrhema and we’d be more than happy to help plan a meaningful visit.

See you at Bukit Rhema — where the sky always feels closer, and hope always has a place.
